Peterhead can now confirm the signing of one-time Scotland squad member Gary MacKenzie who is joining the club from St Mirren.
MacKenzie played for Rangers, Dundee, MK Dons, Blackpool, Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers before moving to the Paisley club in 2016 with the defender playing in 70 matches during his time with the Saints.
Balmoor manager Jim McInally is delighted to bring the experience MacKenzie has on board as he explained: “League 1 next season is going to be extremely competitive again and we will need players who know how to win games, that we would have previously drawn, and to pick up points in games we would previously have lost.”
“We had a really young defence last season at times and whilst the players always gave their all sometimes a lack of experience would see us lose goals that we should not have lost. I expect Gary to make us a more solid outfit both by his own presence and by developing the players around him.”
“David McCracken had a great impact when he came in a few years ago and we will look for Gary to do the same. There was interest in him from other teams but he committed to coming here a few weeks ago and has now signed the paperwork.”
