Spiders duo given Blue Toon chance

Former Queen’s Park duo Calvin McGrory and Jack Purdue could be handed a route back into the senior ranks with Peterhead after being offered a trial period with the Balmoor club.

Former Scotland Schools captain McGrory came through the prestigious youth programme at the Spiders and he went on to make 39 appearances in their midfield, and score twice, however he did not secure a deal when the League 2 side moved to a full-time basis in the summer.

Striker Purdue played with Morton before joining Queen’s last summer and he burst into their team with a bang in the Betfred Cup however his early season form tailed off and he was also let go by Lesser Hampden boss Ray McKinnon.

Blue Toon manager Jim McInally said: “From what I have been told Calvin is a lovely footballer who can open up teams with a single pass however he has not played a lot of games for a 21-year-old. Jack has a good pedigree and is a player who can be very direct but

“We have five pre-season games organised and they will get a chance in them to show what they can do.”
