Peterhead included new loan signing Kieran Freeman and Kyle Bailey as a trialist pending International Clearance in their ranks as they won 3-0 at Harlaw Park against Inverurie Locos Works.
A debut was also given to summer signing Gary Mackenzie with manager Jim McInally looking to give his team a more settled look ahead of the season kicking off.
Ben Armour grabbed the opening goal from the penalty spot with quarter of an hour gone after Steven Boyd had been fouled however the hosts were given the chance to equalise from the spot 22 minutes later after a disputed handball.
Lenny Wilson kept out Neil McLean’s effort from 12 yards and Peterhead made the most of that with Boyd’s persistence creating a second goal before the break when he chased down the home defence to win the ball and then released Armour who picked out Scott Brown with the skipper finishing in his usual fashion.
Substitute Alan Cook converted from close range 3 minutes into the resumption to complete the scoring however Isaac Layne came close to adding a fourth after a great solo run however the recently signed recruit from Dumbarton sent his parting shot wide.
Manager Jim McInally said: “The weather conditions were not good and the wind did not help the game however there were plenty of signs of progress. We have still a bit to go as I did not think we were good enough off the ball in the first half.”
“We had a chat about that at half-time and it improved. It was good to get Gary some game time after a few months out and it was also good to see Ben and Isaac arguing about who was taking the penalty. I want strikers who want to score.”
