Peterhead manager Jim McInally was fulsome in his praise of his players after their 2-0 win at Clyde however the Balmoor boss was not going overboard at his side’s first three point haul in League 1 this season as they were not that far away in their opening fixtures against Airdrie and Cove Rangers.
Broadwood was wind-lashed however Peterhead were on top for the majority of the game and second half goals from Lyall Cameron and skipper Scott Brown secured the win in a contest where three penalties could have been awarded but none were given.
Jim said: “It was a really good performance bearing in mind the conditions. I had said beforehand that Clyde’s pitch is the best artificial one in our league and that allowed us to play some decent football.”
“Overall I thought our energy was really good and we never gave Clyde the opportunity to build things up. Scott Brown, who seems to like a goal at Broadwood was excellent again in midfield, as was Andrew McCarthy again, and they allowed us to press but there were good performances all over the pitch.”
“We played some good football as well but we played some good football in our other games. The key difference in this one is that we got a goal to show for it and when that happened we had a platform to build on.”
As for not being awarded two of three penalty shouts Jim added: “I thought that when Andrew was fouled early on that it was a penalty. To be fair Clyde looked to have a strong claim at the start of the second half when David Goodwillie went down.”
“When it was 2-0 we had another strong claim, this time for handball. You can tell by our players’ reactions that it was a penalty but that was not given either. Thankfully these decisions did not affect the result however I am not sure what else we can do to get a penalty.”
