Peterhead Football Club like the rest of Scottish Football was saddened by the news that former Dundee United manager Jim McLean had passed away at the weekend.
McLean had a phenomenal impact on the game, especially during the 1980’s when Dundee United won a Premier Division title and reached the UEFA Cup Final in 1987.
One player who was involved in the two-legged play-off against IFK Gothenburg is Balmoor manager Jim McInally who remembered his former boss by saying: “In terms of football Jim McLean was up there with the greats of the game. I played under him for a big part of my playing career and the best way to describe the influence he had on me is to say I over-achieved as a player.”
“I got more out of my career than a lot of people expected and that was down to Jim.”
Jim added: “Working under Jim taught me habits that I still stick to now. Sometimes it was just really basic stuff but Jim made sure you stuck to them.”
“You could not go wrong with the teachings he gave you and I use a lot of them now in my work at Peterhead.”
