Cove Rangers v Peterhead Preview

Jan 2, 2021

New Year, Same Challenges

Peterhead kick off 2021 at the Balmoral Stadium home of Cove Rangers with manager Jim McInally again having to make changes to his line-up.

The Blue Toon’s last outing, three days before Christmas, saw them secure a 1-1 draw with Montrose however Gray Fraser and Isaac Layne both picked up injuries and will be missing today with Gary Mackenzie a major doubt after suffering a thigh problem against the Gable Endies.

Better news for Jim is that Jordon Brown has returned to the club after a stint with today’s opponents and Andrew McCarthy is available again following a knee injury. Where the versatile Kieran Freeman will play could well depend on whether Ryan Conroy is available after an ankle injury.

Jim said: “Shuffling players around and having to make changes to the team has been a theme right throughout this season. The players and I just accept it now and get on with things. I am glad that is the case as we need everyone on their game against Cove.”

“I watched them last weekend at Forfar and they deserved their win. It could have been more than the 1-0 score-line. They had a disappointing run of results before that game however they were still playing well and they will be there or thereabouts in terms of the top spaces come the end of the season.”

Mitch Megginson hit the winner for Cove last weekend and that was no surprise to McInally who said: “Mitch is the best striker in this league and his goal last week showed me again why I believe that is the case. He took a lovely touch and got away from his marker before sending a shot home. We know all about Rory McAllister as well so we will need to work hard to keep a very good pairing quiet.”

Peterhead Team News

Jordon Brown who left Cove a fortnight ago has headed to the Blue Toon with Balmoor manager Jim McInally hoping to add another new face before kick-off. Andrew McCarthy has shrugged off a knee injury and is in McInally’s plans however Gary MacKenzie is struggling and he could join the injured Josh Mulligan, Gary Fraser, Isaac Layne and Ben Armour in missing out.
