Peterhead are set to appeal the red card shown to player/ coach Simon Ferry in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat from Cove Rangers with manager Jim McInally also set to bolster his pool by signing English striker Niah Payne.
Ferry was dismissed after committing a foul on Mitch Megginson and after viewing footage of the incident McInally believes that the decision could be worthy of an appeal.
McInally said: “Simon committed a foul by tripping their player after he skipped past him but we had a covering defender so it was not a goalscoring opportunity. The tackle was one I would expect a yellow card to be produced for so I believe that we have grounds to appeal.”
One-time Bradford City front-man Payne is expected to complete his move to Balmoor this week after the 22-year-old travelled up from Yorkshire every week for the past six weeks to convince McInally that he is worth a deal.
Payne has also played Shaw Lane, Goole and Bridlington with McInally saying: “An agent got in touch a couple of months ago saying that Niah wanted to try Scottish Football. I told him that we were not in a position to bring someone up here for a trial however he said that Niah and him were willing to fund it.”
“He has come in and impressed every week in training. We have not had two fully fit strikers at the club since the season started so there is an opportunity for Niah to grab a starting jersey.”
