Peterhead add Long goalkeeper

May 29, 2021

Peterhead are set to complete the signing of goalkeeper Brett Long following his departure from East Fife.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper was a mainstay for the Fifers last season, making 18 appearances between the sticks as Darren Young’s men finished sixth in League One.

However after three seasons at Bayview, Long is heading north after agreeing a deal with Jim McInally’s side where he will fight it out with Lenny Wilson for a starting jersey.

Long came through the youth system at Cliftonville prior to crossing the Irish Sea to join Motherwell – where he won the Youth Cup – before heading to Methil in the summer of 2018.

McInally said: “I have been in contact with Brett and he has agreed to join us. He has a lot of experience of our league and it will be a terrific competition between him and Lenny to start games.”

The signing of Long ends Peterhead’s interest in securing Joshua Rae for a second season with Jim saying: “We had spoken to Joshua about returning however that is at an end now. We wish him well in the rest of his career and thank him for his efforts particularly during the first half of the season where he was in terrific form.”
