Peterhead head to Falkirk this afternoon and Balmoor manager Jim McInally would be delighted to pull off any kind of win over the Bairns and their manager Paul Sheerin.
The Blue Toon’s last win at the Falkirk Stadium was in August 2015 and it was a spectacular one with Rory McAllister grabbing all five goals in a 5-3 success in a Challenge Cup tie.
Ironically Jim has another 5-3 success chalked up against Paul Sheerin as he explained: “Everyone with affection for Peterhead knows all about that cup-tie. We were two goals down and the Rory took over. It was a great win and one that helped us reach the Final that season.”
“Not many people will remember the other 5-3 success as it came when I was the manager of East Stirling against Paul’s Arbroath back in February 2011. Arbroath were chasing the title that season and the Shire went to Gayfield and won 5-3 after going behind as well.”
“It did not do them too much damage as Arbroath went on to win the league but I see similarities in that game to this one. Paul’s team are at home and there is already an expectation on them that they will be pushing for the title. Not many people will give us a chance but as we know unexpected results pop up.”
“Paul moved to Aberdeen to work with their youngsters and you can see some of them breaking through now. However he obviously wanted to become a first team manager again and left Pittodrie for Falkirk. I can understand why he did that as Derek McInnes, who took him there, had also left.”
“Falkirk are a big club and he will do well there but hopefully not against us.”
Jim added: “We are going there with good numbers and with a bit of a spring in our step after beating Alloa last weekend. We have not done ourselves justice at The Falkirk Stadium since that cup-tie and hopefully we can put that right.”
