Peterhead host a Dumbarton side flourishing under Stevie Farrell this afternoon with Blue Toon boss Jim McInally looking for his players to show that they can keep the second top Sons, who include former home favourite Paddy Boyle in their ranks, at bay.
Jim said: “Dumbarton have had a terrific start under Stevie. They have picked up wins on their travels at Clyde, Montrose and Falkirk and deserve great credit for that alone. They are a very different team to the one we faced last season, both in terms of the way they play, and the personnel that they have.”
“Stevie has put together a big and an experienced squad and they are seeing the benefits of that.”
Jim added: “As for us, we know that we have to make ourselves harder to score against. We were far too open, especially in the first half against Queen’s Park last Saturday, and we have to show that we have learned from that.”
“Our squad is younger and less experienced than Dumbarton’s but we need to show that we are learning. We played some very good football in the second half last Saturday, as we have done in a good few other games this season, but now we need to show that we can do other things, that are not as creative, well.””
We have tried to freshen things up by adding three bodies recently and giving a couple of boys the chance to be better prepared for senior football in January. David Wilson was solid when he came on last weekend, and will only get better with more games, and Flynn Duffy is showing the versatility we thought he had when we brought him from Dundee United.
“I am sure that taking Ryan Duncan on-board from Aberdeen has excited everyone connected with Peterhead. I had hoped to use him today however he has a slight hamstring issue and with having a free weekend coming up it may well be the case that having a rest for a couple of weeks will have more ready for the rest of his time here so we may need to wait to see him in action.”
New loan signing Ryan Duncan may have to wait for his Peterhead debut after picking up a slight issue in training with Russell McLean also a doubt due to a knee injury.
Gary Fraser remains absent long term with Alan Cook and Jordon Brown also out as they are not fully over shin and hamstring problems respectively.
The Blue Toon are unable to call on Jadel Musanhu who has joined temporary basis and Derryn Kesson who has returned to his former club Broughty Athletic on a similar deal.
