Peterhead captain Scott Brown is looking to add to Peterhead’s three game unbeaten run against play-off seeking Montrose on Saturday.
A win for the Blue Toon would see them sit just three points away from Stewart Petrie’s side with Brown saying: “If we beat Montrose we will be close to them. They are in a play-off spot so it’s a big target for us. Hopefully we can pick up the win”.
Peterhead are coming off the back of a goalless draw against Falkirk at Balmoor, with the standout performance coming from goalkeeper Brett Long.
Despite the Bairns having seven attempts on target at the Peterhead goal, former East Fife shot-stopper Long kept them at bay and added to his tally of 41 saves in the past 11 league games.
Blue Toon captain Brown reckons that last Saturday’s game shows a change in mentality from the team as he advised: “The biggest thing was that we were kind of disappointed with the point. Obviously, we probably had our goalkeeper Brett to thank for staying in the game for so long but just the fact we were disappointed to only pick up a point against Falkirk shows that we’ve come quite far over the past couple weeks.”
“It also kept our recent good run going on which was nice”.
Jim McInally’s side looks to have turned a corner in terms of results, picking up two wins in their past three and having not lost since the end of September when they went down to league leaders Queens Park.
‘Broony’, who recently passed the 200 game milestone for the club, believes that momentum is key in turning around the Blue Toon’s form for the better as he explained: “The results were poor at the start but I don’t really think the performances overall were that not poor to be fair. We did have a few poor ones but in this league, it is always a case of momentum.”
“As soon as you start to pick up two or three wins you start to jump places”.
“I wouldn’t say there has been a dramatic turn in performance levels, it is more that we’ve managed to turn performances into results.”
Anytime Peterhead face off against the Gable Endies, it is almost a guarantee that there will be goals with a couple of 4-3’s and a 3-2 in recent memory
The former St Johnstone man thinks this trend will not continue this weekend at Balmoor with Brown saying: “Strange that it always seems to be a high scoring game down there but up at Peterhead it doesn’t seem to be as high scoring. We will take anything as long as we take the three points. I wouldn’t expect it to be as high scoring but you can never tell with these games”.
Jim McInally gave an injury update this past Wednesday and hinted at Ryan Conroy and Simon Ferry possibly being available for Saturday’s game if all things go well whilst Niah Payne is expected to miss out with an ankle injury, and the Peterhead captain had high praise for his 2 teammates who could possibly make an appearance against Montrose.
“I know that both of the players are classy, experienced players and players who’ve been around the game for along time. They are two guys we really rely on. Ryan’s been excellent since he came in a couple of years ago and obviously Simon is also a leader on the pitch so fingers crossed, he can be fit for Saturday.”
