Peterhead assistant manager David Nicholls and Peterhead midfielder Gary Fraser are swapping roles this Sunday to help raise funds for Mental Health Charity Back Onside.
Former Hibs, Hamilton Accies, Clydebank, Falkirk, Dunfermline and Gretna player Nicholls is getting his boots on again to play for Back Onside FC in a one-off game against an Annan Athletic XI at Galabank.
Dishing out instructions to the Balmoor number two will be Fraser who has taken on the role of Back Onside Assistant Manager with the midfielder also able to boss a host of players including Derek Lyle and David McCracken against an Annan side who will have Bryan Gilfillan in their ranks.
Blue Toon boss Jim McInally said: “Gary’s appointment will certainly add a dynamic to the game for David and for all the players with a Peterhead connection!”
“In all seriousness I am delighted to see Gary’s involvement with Back Onside continuing to grow. Their founder Libby Emerson has been terrific with him and it is great that Gary continues to give something back. It is good to see Derek getting involved as well as Back Onside deserve a lot of support.”
Gary is due to undergo his long-awaited knee surgery in December and Jim reckons that when he returns to action later in the season, he will be a different and better player, as he explained by saying: “Gary will work with the club to get himself physically fit for his return but I have to thank the work Libby has done to get him mentally fit. He spoke at length with her recently on a podcast about the impact of mental health on his career.”
“I believe that the fact he is feeling better mentally will see him come back to playing stronger and I fully expect him to have a bigger influence on our team when he does.”
Kick-off at Galabank is 2.00pm and whilst everyone recognises that it is a long journey from Aberdeenshire to Annan for a Friendly Game players can be sponsored by contacting Back Onside – Mental health charity helping people through sport
