The Blue Toon Red for Cove Rangers

Nov 13, 2021

A new look Peterhead will look to stop a former Blue Toon favourite when they face Cove Rangers at The Balmoral Stadium this afternoon.

Balmoor boss Jim McInally reckons that his players will have to be at the top of their game to keep Rory McAllister in check in front of what will be one of the biggest travelling supports Peterhead have taken to an away match in senior football.

McAllister has found the net 12 times this season with Jim saying: “It is no surprise to me that Rory has doing well. When we played Cove earlier in the season, I noticed that he was the fittest I had seen him in a while and when you add that to the players he has around him it is not a surprise he is finding the net often.”

“We will look to keep him out but we cannot just concentrate on him as they have a lot of dangerous players. There are three former Peterhead boys in their team and they all seem to enjoy playing against us and lift their game which makes a tough game even tougher.”

Jim added: “Cove have the resources and players to be in the mix at the top of the table all season but that does not mean we cannot get anything from this game. We had a game plan at full-time Airdrie last weekend that worked well until a minute from half-time when we lost a bad goal and everything changed.”

“If we stick to our game plan for the 90 minutes in this one then we can do ok.”

With Peterhead’s game at The Balmoral Stadium played behind closed doors last season Jim is looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and is hoping that by wearing the club’s brand-new away kit any neutrals that turn up will back his side.

Jim explained: “This game is creating a wee bit of history and there should be a big number of Peterhead fans there to see it. There will hopefully also be a lot of neutrals as Aberdeen are not playing either.”

“We will be wearing our new red away kit so hopefully that will get them on our side.”
