Manager preparing for ‘awkward’ game

Jan 7, 2022

Peterhead manager Jim McInally reckons that his side’s game at Firhill tomorrow against Queen’s Park has been made ‘awkward’ following the parting of ways between the Spiders and Head Coach Laurie Ellis.

Jim explained: “Queen’s Park decided to go down a different route in terms of who was in charge of their team just before the end of 2021 and that has made things a bit more awkward for us in terms of how we prepare. Laurie had assembled a good squad and could play them in different formations but by and large we knew what to expect.”

“However they will have had a week’s coaching with the care-taker team of Peter Grant Junior and Gardner Speirs and I do not know what impact that will have had. When Gardner was in charge of the first team there almost ten years ago he always liked a 4-2-3-1 formation so I am left having to guess is he going to bring that in or stick with one of the ways Laurie had the team set-up.”

“We have prepared as best as we can for a number of possibilities but being in the dark makes things a bit awkward. Their players will also be out to show any potential new boss that is watching what they are all about so we have to handle that as well.”
