Show Dundee that they are in a game
Peterhead manager Jim McInally is determined that his Blue Toon players push Dundee as far as they can when the sides meet at Balmoor in the Scottish Cup tonight.
McInally explained: “We have done all we can in terms of putting on a good performance. We brought the players in for an extra training session on Friday night and also arranged some work to be done on Monday morning as well.”
“We went to Tynecastle last Wednesday to watch Dundee in action against Hearts. It was a worthwhile exercise as we saw two different performances. In the first half Hearts were well on top and we could have started fancying our chances a bit however in the second half we saw Dundee play really well and score twice to win 2-1.”
“Dundee’s display in the second 45 minutes showed me how well we need to play to even let them know they are in a game. If we play to the potential we have then we can do that. We certainly do not want them up here and coasting throughout the 90 minutes.”
McInally would also like his players to show Dundee how good they are as he remains irked by issues over the loan deals of Dark Blues Josh Mulligan, Danny Strachan and Lyall Cameron and a Challenge Cup tie with Dundee’s under-20 side earlier this season which saw the trio play against Peterhead.
The Peterhead manager said: “As well as playing against players who were on loan to us that game was moved about to suit Dundee in terms of the kick-off, venue and date. There was a distinct lack of respect shown to Peterhead as a club regarding the loan deals and we want to ensure that we gain respect on the pitch at least.”
Skipper Scott Brown is over the ankle injury that has troubled him recently with Grant Savoury available again after overcoming a hamstring strain with Hamish Ritchie back after a heel problem.
Owen Cairns, Rico Quitongo and Jack Brown all miss out as they are cup tied with Lenny Wilson, Simon Ferry and Gary Fraser out due to injury.
