Peterhead make it seven in seven for Peterhead United this Sunday

Mar 4, 2022

A Peterhead XI will take on (what could be a very tired) Peterhead United this Sunday at noon at Buchanhaven Hearts’ Raemoss Park with Aberdeen-based CLAN Cancer Support the winner.

When the North-east Welfare side meet the Blue Toon, it will be their seventh game in seven days and whilst their endurance test will help with their pre-season preparations for their Newline Building Supplies League 2 campaign which starts in April there is another reason for their challenge.

Peterhead United kicked off against Maud JFC on Monday before moving onto facing Buchanhaven Hearts the following day with Buchan Ladies providing the opposition on Wednesday.

Fraserburgh met United last night and their fifth game is at Mintlaw Park tonight against Haven FC, with Mormond Thistle being team number six tomorrow.

The idea for the run of games came after the club’s new away kits were sponsored by an anonymous local businessman who wanted a cancer charity’s logo on the strips as opposed to a company logo.

After that deal was agreed Peterhead United decided to go big to raise funds for CLAN Cancer Support and the game with SPFL Peterhead brings the curtain down on their campaign.

Balmoor boss Jim McInally said: “We will use a strong squad for this game however my assistant David Nicholls as well as Gary Fraser and Alan Cook have commitments with https://backonside.co.uk/ , who are also playing a fund-raising game, so they will not be involved at Raemoss.”

“There could be some guest appearances as well.”

Jim who was capped ten times for Scotland in his playing days was asked if he would be one of the guests and he said: “We shall see how the game goes. I will take my boots with me just in case. It is great that we are supporting Peterhead United in this way and I wish them well in their fundraising for CLAN Cancer Support.”
