Cove Rangers v Peterhead Match Preview – ‘Do yourselves justice’

Mar 5, 2022

Peterhead are out to show football fans in Aberdeen that they are a decent side on their travels when they take on League 1 leaders Cove Rangers in the Granite City this afternoon.

Blue Toon manager Jim McInally explained: “Cove are a very good side who will go on to win the league in my opinion. I said that they would do that at the start of the season and I have not seen anything to change my mind on that.”

“We have however given them two very close games at our place. They have scored the only goal in both games in debatable fashion late on so we know that at home we can push them really hard.”

“What we have to show in this game is that we can push them hard at their place. When we went to the Balmoral Stadium back in November we put in our worst display of the season. We lost 3-0 and had no complaints about the result.”

“We did not do ourselves any justice in that game and that is the minimum I am looking for in this one. I want us to show that we can play a bit and that last display was a one-off.”

McInally’s side make the short trip south on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Queen’s Park in midweek with Jim glad to be playing on a decent surface this time out as he explained: “Apart from the first few minutes in each half there was not a lot wrong with our display on Tuesday. I am not one for looking for excuses but the Firhill pitch was a disgrace and I am sure that the good astroturf pitch that Cove have will hopefully suit us better.”

“We had Cove watched in midweek when they took on Queen of the South in their Challenge Cup semi-final. They lost that game and whilst they will be disappointed at that I do not think there will be a hangover as they played well and should have won according to the report I received.”

Team News –
