Peterhead travel to Clackmannanshire this afternoon to face Alloa Athletic looking for the win that would take them above their hosts in the League 1 table.
A three point haul would also keep second bottom Dumbarton at arm’s length with Balmoor manager Jim McInally asking his players to keep playing like they have been playing but to avoid making the mistakes that are costing points.
Jim said: “The players continue to deserve credit for the way they are preparing for games and for how they are trying to play in games. The effort is there and so are the principles in terms of passing and trying to attack teams.”
“What we do need to get better at is being more clinical at both ends of the pitch. We are still making a decent amount of chances per game but not taking them. When that happens, you put pressure on your defence not to make any mistakes however there has been games where mistakes have been made and we have lost goals as a result.”
“We have had poor pass-backs, hesitation between players and misplaced clearances in the past month or so. Every time something like that happens, we appear to be punished so the best way to avoid that happening is by cutting out the errors.”
“We need to shoot into the opposition’s net and not into our own foot.”
Jim added: “The players are giving everything they can in terms of getting the wins we need to climb the table. Hopefully we can get three points at Alloa and do that. We had two good wins over them earlier in the season and then they got a win at our place in a game that I will use to highlight what happens if we don’t convert chances and have a slack moment at the back.”
“They had a good draw at Queen’s Park last weekend and their new manager Brian Rice is having an impact. I would however expect to face a different line-up in this game as I reckon Brian picked a side suited to the dreadful pitch at Firhill and he will amend it for the game on their artificial surface.”

Player/ coach Simon Ferry trained this week after a lengthy absence due to a back problem however manager McInally may not risk him from the start however on-loan Fraserburgh full back Owen Cairns and experienced defender Jason Brown is over an ankle injury and both could play from the first whistle.
