Peterhead host a Queen’s Park side this afternoon that have already booked their place in the promotion play-offs however Blue Toon manager Jim McInally is not expecting his men to be facing a team with one eye on what happens at the end of the season.
The Balmoor men are still looking for the points that will secure League 1 football again next season and they will not come easy against the fourth placed Glasgow side with boss McInally saying: “I do not buy in to Queen’s Park coming here thinking that their job for the season is done. They will come here determined to show why they are in fourth place and with players out to show that they should have a starting jersey for the play-offs.”
“We have prepared to be facing a strong side who will be going at things at full gallop.”
The Spiders were defeated 2-1 on their last visit north and a repeat of that score-line could open up a gap that ninth placed Dumbarton cannot close however Jim is not thinking that far as he explained: “We will look to do things under our own steam. We will look to get the win and then start thinking about East Fife next weekend.”
“We were a goal down in that last game with Queen’s Park and put in a great second half performance to win. We need to play as well as we did in those 45 minutes to have any chance and preferably do that for the 90 minutes.”
“In the two away games against them we have started poorly and given away leads early so we know that if we are slack, we will get punished.”
After three weeks away Jim is glad to be back at Balmoor as he explained: “Our last game at home was a good one as we beat Falkirk. We played really well at Clyde on their artificial surface however we were not as good at Dumbarton last weekend.”
“We battled to get a point but we could not play the football we like doing due to the surface there. Balmoor is always in good nick at this time of year so hopefully we can play in a style that suits us whilst recognising that our opponents also like to pass the ball around.”
Team news –
Defender Andy McDonald, midfielder Gary Fraser, the experienced Alan Cook and player/coach Simon Ferry have been declared as fit to play after injuries however Hamish Ritchie, Derek Lyle and David Wilson have been ruled out.
Manager McInally will make late checks on Niah Payne and Russell McLean who have been carrying knocks this week.
