Andy on the mend

Peterhead midfielder Andrew McCarthy received good news at the end of last week regarding the ankle injury he suffered during pre-season.

The 23-year-old has not played a minute of competitive football this season after being injured in a challenge with former team-mate Josh Mulligan in a friendly against Dundee and had been expected to be out for several months.

Tests last week have confirmed that last season’s Players’ Player of the Year could be back before the end of August with manager Jim McInally saying: “We wanted to find out how Andrew’s ankle was settling down so he had an ultrasound conducted last week. It showed that things have settled well and that there was no damage to his achilles which was a fear.”

“We will still take our time with him but it looks like a few weeks until he is back now as opposed to a few months.”
