Queen of the South Match Preview
Aug 19, 2022
Peterhead welcome Queen of the South to Balmoor today for what is the first ever league match between the sides. After defeats in the Challenge Cup and the Scottish Cup from the Doonhamers in the only three meetings between the sides, everyone that supports the Blue Toon will be hoping that the first game for points is a home win. After a summer that saw a much bigger rebuilding job than expected, and then another rebuilding job due to injuries and suspensions, Balmoor boss Jim McInally is only looking forward ahead of facing the Dumfries men as he explained: “We have had a few issues to contend with since the end of last season, and have not had a settled side this season, however it is time to put all that behind us. We are still not at full-strength but I am looking forward to what lies in wait as opposed to looking back.” “What lies in wait is a Queen of the South side that may well have been relegated however they recruited well over the summer. They have brought in a some very good players including Connor Murray and Gavin Reilly who have been successful for them before.” “It is our third game against a full-time side in our opening four league encounters however that is not something I am looking at. I am looking at us starting to have a side and a shape that people recognise.” Jim added: “We still have some players to come back after injuries and there is the potential of more signings but I would like to think that no-one will walk into the side and pick up a starting jersey. We have a good number of players now and what they have to do is put pressure on me to include them from the start when others are available.” “The eleven we start with against Queen of the South have the best chance to do that.” Team news – Jason Brown is available again after the head injury he picked up last month with everyone at the club working hard on getting a signing from England that has been held up in ‘red tape’ over the line before kick-off. Conor O’Keefe starts a two-match ban and he joins the injured Andrew McCarthy, Russell McLean and Hamish Ritchie remaining on the side-lines.
