Ramez receives international call-up

Peterhead’s newest recruit, Ramez Hefzalla, has been called up to a Training Camp for the Egyptian National under-20 team.

The 18-year-old former Millwall midfielder, who made an impressive debut for the Blue Toon as a substitute against Montrose earlier this month, had the choice of three international countries to choose from as he was born in England to an Egyptian father and a Moroccan mother.

Earlier this year Ramez opted for Egypt, and he has been included in their under-20 training squad for the African Nations ahead of qualifying group games in Tunisia in November.

The call-up is bitter-sweet for Peterhead as Ramez will miss the league game against Kelty Hearts this Saturday and the SPFL Trust Trophy Match with Elgin next weekend with manager Jim McInally saying: “We knew that this was a possibility when we signed Ramez so the first thing to say is well done to him in getting called up. Everyone was excited by his debut and I have been excited by what I have seen in training, but everyone will need to keep that excitement in check just now.”

“I remember saying when Ryan Duncan was called-up by Scotland last season that it was a terrific first for the club to have an international player and this is a terrific second.”

“We wish Ramez well with Egypt.”
