Big week ahead for Rusty

Sep 26, 2022

Peterhead striker Russell McLean is hoping to get the green light to start his return towards playing when he meets up with a knee specialist this week. The 24-year-old, who was the club’s top goalscorer last season, has been out of action for nearly six months due to a persistent knee problem that required surgery back in July.

It was initially thought that ‘Rusty’ would be out for six weeks from the date of the operation however that period was extended after a slight complication. Manager Jim McInally is hoping that McLean will be able to start joining in with the rest of his squad at training next week as he explained: “Russell came up and visited all the boys last week as he is hoping to be back in working amongst them soon.”

“There is a meeting with his consultant this week and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that Russell will be allowed to start jogging ahead of starting what amounts to a pre-season training programme.”

“He is still a bit away from playing again but it would be great to be a bit closer to the light at the end of his injury tunnel.”
