Montrose v Peterhead preview

Nov 5, 2022

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has warned his side not to be taken in by hosts Montrose losing 4-0 at Airdrie last weekend. The Blue Toon head to Links Park with confidence rising after a strong display against Edinburgh City in their previous outing with Balmoor boss McInally saying: “Montrose are a good side as they have shown consistently over a number of years. By all accounts they played poorly last weekend, however it is very rare that they have two bad games in a row, so we are expecting a very tough test.” “The last time we played Montrose they showed a very streetwise approach especially after going down to ten men just before half-time. They were winning 1-0 at that stage and they were able to use the experience they have to keep possession in the second 45 minutes and then pick us off to grab a penalty and a second goal.” “We have to show that we have learned since then and that we are a stronger side. We believe that we are improving but this will be a test of that improvement.” “If anyone thinks our task will be easier because Montrose lost heavily last weekend then they will be in for a shock. We played well last weekend and that is the minimum I am looking for in this one.”
Florent Hoti is included in the travelling party with manager McInally reluctant to use the term ‘trialist’ to describe the former Dundee United midfielder. Jim said: “Florent is not on trial with us to prove anything. He showed last week that he is sharp and fit as well as being a very good passer of the ball. He is not trying to sell himself to us but we are trying to sell ourselves to him.” “He loves playing football and he is getting a chance to do that here. Hopefully, we can continue doing that for a while longer.”
Team News: Julien Carre misses out due to suspension with Andrew McDonald, Paul Dixon, Russell McLean, Cody McLeod, Hamish Ritchie and Ola Adeyemo all ruled out through injury with Robbie McGale back in contention for a place after recovering from his dislocated shoulder. Andrew McCarthy continues his comeback from his ankle problem and as mentioned above Florent Hoti is included for a second time.
