Allan settling in

Feb 20, 2023

John Allan is excited by the challenge after joining Peterhead from Scalloway. The new forward, who made his debut on Saturday against Clyde, is looking to make an instant impact at Balmoor and to make his previous experiences in Shetland count with his new employers.

He said, “It all happened really quickly and I am delighted to be here at Peterhead and it’s good so far so I am happy. I went on trial three weeks ago and then was offered a contract, they said if I can get my work situation sorted out then I could get started. I got transferred to the Ellon depot in my role as an overhead linesman for SSE and they were great with me. The training is a lot quicker and I really enjoy the competitiveness of it but I wanted to challenge myself at a higher level. There’s a lot of quality players here and it’s a lot quicker, more physical and I’m ready to go.”

“The conversations with Davie Robertson and Ian Esslemont (assistant manager) have been limited so far, I have been getting settled into what life will be like here. I’ve noticed we have a good array of strikers now and would describe myself as direct and aggressive. We have two good strikers in Daniel Fosu and Kieran Shanks who both play at a high standard. I will come and give it my all at Peterhead and try and work as hard as possible to get as fit as I can, As a striker, you want to score goals but to get game time will be an initial aim but I’ll take things one step at a time. At Scalloway, we won our first cup in 20 years last season and I set up one of the goals, We were a very young team and I was the second oldest player, the average age was about 21, so they’re an up-and-coming team in the Shetland area so I am used to having a challenge. “

The attacker moved to nearby Fraserburgh last week and Allan explained it all by adding, “My girlfriend is a primary teacher in the Broch and she got a job there, she’s from Shetland like me and she got a probation year before getting a job permanently. I’ve just moved in with her and it’s been a really easy transition, it’s just been a case of getting everything moved in. I’ve been here for a week now and the weather is much better here compared to Shetland!”
