Andy McCarthy signs on

Peterhead FC is delighted to announce that Andy McCarthy has signed a new contract at Peterhead keeping him at Balmoor until the summer of 2025.

McCarthy, who has featured 78 times for the Blue Toon had no qualms about signing on with the club despite the commitments of travelling up from the Central Belt on regular occasions for matches.

The combative playmaker has been at Peterhead for the last three years and is keen to appreciate the hard work behind the scenes. He said, “I am delighted to stay at the club for a further two years, it’s a club that I really appreciate a lot and appreciate what’s done for me and I really want to do well for Peterhead.

“I know this season hasn’t been great and it’s been a hard season for myself personally having picked up an injury earlier in the season, it was frustrating watching every week but am starting to get back to my natural match fitness now again.

“So, I am delighted to stay as I know the results aren’t great and the position in the league table isn’t great but I see the ambition of the club from the players to the Gaffer and also Rodger Morrison and the board.

“Peterhead was a place I came to when I wasn’t myself football-wise and it set me back on the straight and narrow of working hard and enjoying life more, it’s a club that means a lot to me.

“From my conversations with the Gaffer, I could see the ambition that he has for Peterhead and that’s massive for me as well, I’ve enjoyed it since Davie has come in and it’s something I can believe in.”

Gaffer Davie Robertson said, “It’s good, obviously Andy is one of the stars in the team and he’s a fans favourite here at Peterhead.

“I know there were a lot of clubs asking about him but he’s decided to stay here which is great, it’s good to have players like that, especially with the position we’re in. Andy could play higher than League One in my opinion. He’s an ambitious guy as well but the main traits Andy possesses are that he’s a character in the dressing room and helps the young players.

“When we’ve been under pressure in games, he can keep a hold of the ball and that’s important, hopefully, we can kick on in the long-term and Andy plays a big part in that.”
