The first half saw chances for both teams with the visitors doing well to frustrate the hosts, not backs to the wall stuff like previous weeks but an authority to get forward when getting a slice of freedom beyond the halfway line.
An early Jordon Brown header forced Kevin Dabrowski into action as the Blue Toon looked to threaten the home goal, a decent ball came into the box finding the current joint caretaker manager who had to tip the ball over the bar from a Danny Strachan delivery.
Josh Todd at the other end midway through the first period had an effort from the edge that troubled the Peterhead defence but not Stuart McKenzie as a stinging effort from the midfielder just flew wide of the left post. Ruari Paton also tried his luck with a similar attempt just going wide.
Josh Oyinsan and Kieran Shanks did well to link-up in the forward area for Peterhead and the latter had a chance across goal that went wide before Shanks also tried to find Jordon Brown but the stalwart failed to get a connection on the opportunity.
Three minutes after the restart, QOTS took the lead from the penalty spot after Andy McCarthy fouled Cammy Logan after the former Hearts forward got past three Peterhead defenders. It was controversial by many in visiting colours though with Andy McCarthy and Jason Brown leading the protests towards referee Stewart Luke. Up stepped Paton who kept his composure and slotted the pen down the middle.
Lee Connelly had an effort for the hosts that almost forced a second for the hosts but McKenzie reacted to the danger. A couple of minutes later, Peterhead were level.
A Jack Wilkie delivery from the left was met by the thumping header of Jason Brown who guided home an instinct header past Dabrowski to level for the Blue Toon, the experienced defender leading the celebrations in a goal that meant a lot to him for a man who is so passionate about playing for Peterhead.
Any hopes of getting a solid point in Dumfries was hampered with six minutes left as QOTS got a winner, Lewis Gibson linked up well with Lee Connelly who latched onto the neat pass before firing past McKenzie.
It wasn’t to be but not without a fight from the Blue Toon, proud was a common word used on the way home from the Borders but as much as you aim to be colossal and commendable, results count at this stage of the season. Long way to go yet.
Peterhead joint caretaker manager Jordon Brown said post-match, “You can’t fault anyone from the boys who start to the subs that came on, the attitude was different class and you can see the togetherness of everyone, it’s frustrating.
“We’re getting closer and there’s a lot of disappointment in the dressing room, we won more flick-ons and had more chances.”
