Peterhead 1 FC Edinburgh 0

A Josh Oyinsan seventh-minute goal was the difference as Peterhead claimed an important win at home to FC Edinburgh that will hopefully give the Blue Toon some much needed momentum now for the remaining five league games of the season.

Peterhead took the lead on seven minutes as Andy McCarthy got his head on the ball before an opening followed up when Jack Brown slipped through Josh Oyinsan who rounded Robbie Mutch before guiding home into the roof of the net to open the scoring for the Blue Toon.

FC Edinburgh almost levelled after a corner by Ryan Shanley from the left was met by Daniel Handling but it wasn’t enough to force Stuart McKenzie into too much trouble as the hosts were comfortable but knew the danger possessed by the visitors.

On 25 minutes, the Brown brothers almost linked up for a second with a free-kick causing problems for the opposition defence as Jason was colossal in their box finding Jordon who hit a first-time shot towards goal that forced a routine save from Robbie Mutch.

FC Edinburgh pulled the trigger as the half-time whistle approached at Balmoor, Innes Murray with a drive that McKenzie tipped over the bar, the visitors had several corners that followed that came to nothing as a degree of joy started to creep into Balmoor. There was more of a belief and enthusiasm that hasn’t been witnessed at Peterhead in a while.

Ryan Strachan had a free kick seven minutes after the restart that gave Robbie Mutch initial trouble before gathering with ease as the hosts tried to find a way to get a second and give them some breathing space.

Shouts for a home penalty soon after didn’t come to fruition as both Kieran Shanks and Oyinsan thought they were fouled by Mutch but referee Iain Snedden waved away the claims as Mutch got the ball before the man.

Jordon Brown has been desperate for a goal for a while and had a golden chance to double Peterhead’s advantage on 65 minutes with a well-worked move before the Blue Toon stalwart forced a shot at goal that was held by Mutch.

Peterhead kept on top and had chances to finish the game off, Shanks forced a mistake from Mutch before finding Daniel Fosu who hit a long-range effort over the bar.

Fosu had another effort over the bar two minutes from time with a shot that curled over the bar as the hosts looked to finish the game off but after a moment of anxiety, Ian Snedden blew for full-time and scenes of wild celebrations as a long overdue win came in the direction of Peterhead.

A performance that had everything you would epitomise about a team, hard work, character, and a desire to win, some big traits to have in a team.
