Recap
Peterhead 2 Clyde 0
Lyle (30), S Brown (86)
Peterhead returned to winning ways with a 2-0 success over Clyde at a windy Balmoor thanks to goals from Derek Lyle and Scott Brown. Manager Jim McInally had said before kick-off that he would accept an ugly win after a succession of fine performances had not been fully rewarded and he got his wish on a day where the elements were not conducive to allowing good football to be played.
The visitors threatened early when a long clearance reached David Goodwillie and the former Scotland striker fired in a shot that Greg Fleming needed two attempts to save.
Clyde’s Alex Petkov met an Ally Love corner on 25 minutes with a header however again goalkeeper Fleming was equal to it.
Lyle who was recalled to the starting line-up by McInally edged the Blue Toon in front on the half hour mark after being picked out by Ben Armour who was also relishing a start.
The striker created space and took a touch before finding the net from six yards.
Peterhead restricted the Bully Wee to few chances as they pushed for a leveller in the second half however with 15 minutes to go Darren Smith was given a glimpse of goal however Fleming made a brave stop.
The crucial second goal came four minutes from time when substitute Rory McAllister set up Brown to score for the fourth game in a row with the midfielder lashing home from 12 yards.
The game was to finish on a low note with Simon Ferry shown a red card after being picked out be referee Chris Graham following a heated exchange between players from both teams.
Peterhead – Fleming, Ferguson, J Brown, Hooper, Boyle, Ferry, S Brown, Armour, Fraser (Eadie 81), Stevenson (Smith 65), Lyle (McAllister 70),
