Ecstasy and then Agony for Armour

Substitute Ben Armour netted just four minutes after coming on for the Blue Toon to secure a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at Balmoor however the day ended in pain for the former Morton attacker as he suffered a hamstring injury.

New recruits Alan Cook and Steven Boyd were given starting roles as Peterhead looked for their first win of 2020 with new club captain Scott Brown leading the team out.

Derek Lyle looked to have given Peterhead a great start after just four minutes however his header came bouncing back off a post.

Lyle was off target again shortly afterwards before striker Boyd showed his attacking prowess with a shot that Sean Brennan saved smartly.

Ryan McGeever headed an opportunity wide for the visitors on 32 minutes before Boyd showed trickery and got another shot in at Brennan’s goal.

Peterhead had been against the wind and whilst possession has been fairly equally shared manager Jim McInally would have been disappointed not to have taken the lead.

Peterhead came out and got on top of things early in the second half and after a period of pressure they were given a great opportunity to open the scoring just before the hour mark when Stuart Carswell fouled Boyd in the box.

Lyle took responsibility from 12 yards however he sent his effort over the bar.

The feeling that this was not going to be Peterhead’s day increased when a drive from Jack Leitch clipped the woodwork.

Armour came on for Lyle on 78 minutes and he made the breakthrough when he pounced on the loose ball after Brennan had saved but could not hold a Leitch shot.

The youngster’s joy soon came to an end as he suffered a hamstring injury and had to leave the field and with all three substitutes used Peterhead had to see things out with ten men.

McInally’s men remained organised throughout despite their reduced number to ensure that the three points stayed in Balmoor.
