Stranraer 1-2 Peterhead
Scott Brown’s first half double gave Peterhead their first away victory as Stranraer came unstuck at Stair Park.
The former St Johnstone midfielder opened the scoring in the 19th minute and netted again a quarter of an hour later to put the Blue Toon firmly in command.
Rory McAllister was sent off for dissent in the second half and his team-mates were under pressure in the closing stages after David Dangana pulled one back for the hosts.
But Jim McInally’s team held on to make it two wins in a row following on from their success against Forfar.
Unchanged from last week, Peterhead enjoyed a fine start and Brown found the bottom corner with a well-taken effort before McAllister almost made it two with a header from Paddy Boyle’s cross.
Brown was in the mood and he was celebrating again in the 34th minute following a shot from distance, which beat Dale Burgess.
The post denied Stranraer a route back into the match four minutes into the second period, Adam Cummins seeing his header come back off the upright.
To strengthen their backline, Peterhead introduced new signing David Ferguson midway through the half, in place of Gary Fraser.
But the Blue Toon were on the back foot when McAllister saw red with 18 minutes remaining for voicing his opinion to the referee, who was unimpressed by his comments.
It became nervy for the visitors after on loan Aberdeen teenager Dangana sent a header past Greg Fleming in the 85th minute and Ian Smith then nodded against the post.
Peterhead, however, stood firm to rise to fifth in the table, just a point behind the early pacesetters, Raith and Dumbarton.
